Screen Tasmania together with Wide Angle Tasmania are offering a unique training opportunity - Tasmania’s first Feature Film Induction Course

As a result of Screen Tasmania’s mandate to  stimulate and increase production activity in Tasmania, there is a growing need to establish a skilled Tasmanian technical and craft crew base to work on a range of drama productions for cinema and television.
Due to this demand, Screen Tasmania has partnered with Wide Angle Tasmania to deliver an exciting opportunity for both aspiring and experienced Tasmanian film-makers to take part in a unique professional-level training programme.

The Feature Film Induction Course will be held in Hobart in July 2009 and will be run by top industry professionals. The course will run in two stages and will be an invaluable stepping stone for anyone seeking to be employed professionally within the screen industry.

Proposed dates are Saturday 18 July 2009 for free introductory day, with second stage commencing in the week of Monday 20 July 2009.

At the end of the course, there may be an opportunity for graduates to be considered for a position as either a paid attachment or employed in a crew role on two sci-fi feature films shooting between July – November 2009.
Those wishing to be considered for a paid attachment or crew employment roles must have attended the course, or be able to demonstrate significant professional on-set experience.

The course will cater to all levels of experience; entry-level and also filmmakers who have some experience but are keen to up-skill or transfer skills to a particular specialisation.

Five major areas of specialist training will be offered:
1.    Production – (Production Manager/Assistant/Co-ordinator, Accounting)
2.    On set – (Assistant Directing, Location Management, continuity)

Second Stage Intensive development*

The second stage will consist of an intensive pre-production and hands-on shoot phase. Participants will be selected for this second stage after completing the Introductory Day, and will work closely with mentors in their chosen craft specialisation.  On completion of the course a number of participants may be offered either an internship or employment on a feature film to be produced in Tasmania.
