Feature Film Script Development

  • An investment of $10,000 to Simon Martin to develop a second draft of his screenplay The Entrepreneurs. Seeking a new life, Dylan lands in an interstate city. At a job interview he meets Scott, who offers him both a place to live and a new career – as a confidence trickster.

Industry and Cultural Development

  • A grant of $7,000 to Mountain Film Festival Inc (Chris Cooper) to assist with the presentation of a three day film festival to be held as part of the Mountain Festival in Hobart, March 2006.
  • A grant of $2,000 to Kim Reynolds to assist with the marketing of the short film Poppy.
  • A grant of $12,665.28 to Franz Docherty and Belinda Bradley for script reading program Dialogue and Action! This is a continuation and expansion of the program that Franz and Belinda started last year, modelled on similar programs in other states.
  • A grant of $10,830 to the Interweave Arts Association (Kim Schneiders) for Car Park Cinema. This is a free film festival in Launceston that incorporates Car Park Cinema and the Park Cinema Family Day.

Short Films

  • A grant of $53,129 to Matthew Van Rooijen and Mauricio Milne Jones for production of the animated short film The Long Beach. A mystery girl releases a man with patterns and fishes.

Major Projects

  • An investment of $41,880 to Troy Melville and Janine Wright for the project Returning Gilbert. The film will focus on a Tasmanian ‘horse whisperer’ who has been asked to travel to Africa to practise her craft on a rather unusual subject. The subject in question is Gilbert, a zebra raised in captivity for so long that he now needs to be ‘reverse engineered’ before he can be returned to the wild. Funding from Screen Tasmania will enable Troy and Janine to travel to Africa to capture what promises to be unique footage.
  • An investment of $15,025 to Andrei Maberley to assist with production and pilot for a TV cooking-style series on DIY music called Guerilla Mixer – DIY Indie Hits.
  • An investment of $13,000 to Tom Cowan to assist with the development of a low-budget feature film entitled Tasmanian Ghost Story.

Industry and Cultural Development

  • A grant of $5,000 to the Australian Film Institute (Melbourne) for the AFI Award Screenings. This grant is to assist with the presentation of the judging screenings at the State Cinema in Hobart.
  • A grant of $4,000 to Troy Melville to assist with travel to the Sunnyside of the Doc Documentary Market and Festival in Marseilles. Troy travelled to France to finalise deals on two French co-productions for French marine television series Thalassa, and to continue to seek partners for his documentary The French Garden.
  • A grant of $4,104 to Moneka Knight to fund a professional attachment to filmmaker John Liu in China while making a documentary.
  • A travel grant of $800 to Heidi Douglas for attendance at SPAA Fringe 2005 in Brisbane.
