Definitions

Animation

Screen Tasmania will fund animation projects within the Project Development and Production Investment programs that fall within one of the Feature Film, Television Drama Series or Digital Media Projects definitions. From time to time Screen Tasmania may also fund shorter animation projects under Special Project Initiatives

Digital Media

Screen Tasmania will fund a range of digital media project types designed for platforms such as websites, mobile phones and video or computer games. Preference will be given to projects directed toward story-telling or cultural outcomes in contrast to projects that are database driven assembling of links and information that might constitute excellent web property, but fail to satisfy the story-telling and cultural criteria of Screen Tasmania's remit

Documentary

Screen Tasmania will fund both one-off documentaries and documentary series, and applies the Australian Communications and Media Authority's (ACMA) Australian Content Standard to define documentary as 'a creative treatment of actuality other than a news or current affairs, sports coverage, magazine, infotainment, or light entertainment program'. Screen Tasmania does not invest in other actuality programs, such as reality television, infotainment, current affairs, cooking, 'how to' or sports programs

Development Budget

Development budgets include legitimate costs associated with developing a project to take it to the next stage, in order to progress it towards production. Screen Tasmania does not fund options, rights payments or legal costs

Emerging Practitioner

Emerging practitioners are those who have no experience, or have limited experience in a key creative role (that is, producer, writer or director)

Experienced Practitioner

Experienced practitioners are those who have experience in a key creative role (that is, producer, writer, director) as follows:
Feature film – at least one screened feature film credit
Television Drama and Documentary – minimum of two hours broadcast credits
Digital media – two credits in a creative role on significant projects

Interstate Practitioners

Interstate practitioners are practitioners who live outside Tasmania

Feature Film

A film intended for cinema release of 75 minutes or more duration

Series Bible

A series bible should include: a synopsis of the whole series; episode outlines; detailed character breakdowns; tone, style and setting document

Tasmanian Practitioners

Tasmanian practitioners are practitioners who currently live in Tasmania

Television Drama Series

Screen Tasmania will fund the following categories of television drama:

  • adult miniseries up to 13 hours in length
  • adult animated miniseries up to 13 episodes, each not less than a half-hour in length
  • children's miniseries of 13 half-hours or 26 half-hours
  • children's animated miniseries of up to 26 episodes, each not less than one-quarter commercial television hour
  • single telemovies
  • telemovie packages up to three telemovies
